Nourishment – Good Medicine for the Whole of Life!

The Human Experience Coach

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

Malnutrition is a serious condition. Usually, it refers to not eating enough food or a lack of certain vitamins and minerals to the point that our body becomes under nourishment. What about the rest of who we are? Does nourishment only refer to our body?

We are so fortunate to have access to a wide variety of food choices and even to be able to boost our well-being with supplementation, if required to. There really should be no reason for our body to not receive everything it needs and feel nourished.

We are so much more than just a body

If you have been around any of my programs you will know that I emphasise that we are so much more than just a body. We are a body, we have a mind, a soul and a spirit. Every part of us is connected and each part affects the other parts. The full human experience is acknowledging each part, experiencing each part and feeling the connectedness of each part. Each part has a vital role to play and each part also has to grow and become even more. Growth requires feeding. The result of that growth and what we experience will depend on the quality and amount of what each part is being fed with.

We know with our body that a balance of Macronutrients (Protein, Carbs and Fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) is required along with some regular active movement. Feed the body with what it needs, such as good quality protein, fruits and vegetables, and the result is a well nourished body. Feed it with highly processed food, too much sugar and too much food, ignoring what it needs can have a negative effect on your well-being. What about the rest of us?

We are a body, we have a mind, a soul and a spirit. Every part of us is connected and one part affects the other parts.

When we nourish our mind with positive, constructive thoughts and information such as learning a new skill, writing your goals and good thoughts of yourself, the result permeates to the rest of our being and our experience of life is usual even more enjoyable. Fill your mind with tv, social media, poor friendships and self hatred and your well-being can spiral down.

Our soul loves to be nourished with things like good music, dancing, hugs, walking in nature, freely feeling our emotions and being with good friends. Neglect your soul with being sedentary, too much stress, not being with people and lack of variety can cause it to become under nourished and your well-being can also suffer.

Our Spirit, or sense of connectedness to something bigger than us, thrives when nourished with activities like meditation, prayer, walking in nature, compassion and giving to others. Conversely, activities like fearful thoughts, jealousy, hatred, violence and stress can under nourish our spirit.

Come Alive!

The full human experience is more that just what our body experiences. True ‘aliveness’ comes from experiencing all of who we are body, mind, soul and spirit. To experience the best we need to nourish every part of who we are with what each part needs. Nourish them well and the more alive you can feel.

What parts of you are might need some additional nourishing right now? What do you need to change so you can experience even more aliveness?
